Among the holidays in the country, All
Souls/Saints day is one of the most celebrated. A time to
remember our dearly departed by offering prayers, lighting
candles and even staying in the cemetery overnight. This
occasion is also a time for family reunions and meeting old
friends in one venue.
As part of the national government’s
paranoia over the terrorism threat, this year’s celebration
lacks the zest as mahjong, cards, liquors, karaoke,
televisions etc were banned inside the cemetery. But some
still managed to discreetly brought liquors and played cards
though.
The town now has two cemeteries. The
private one is in Paligue and the public is still in Quirino
but it has been transferred across from the old location. The
people were divided already unlike before where the crowd was
concentrated in one area.
